A Very Long Overdue Open Letter from the President of Perpetual Radio

It's been three months since we've last recorded a new show on Perpetual Radio, and this letter is long overdue to be written and delivered to the community of PRN. I hope this letter will help clear up some questions that a lot of our listeners have been wondering, as well as our hosts and contributors.

First off, I want the hosts from our shows over the years to know how much I appreciate all the support you've given us over the past 3 years. Without your dedication to this network, we would not have been able to grow the shows to the point that we had at the end of 2011. As of today, we've had 230,305 unique episode downloads across all of our shows since May 2010. I'm so proud of these numbers, and it would not have been possible without you.

The second group I'd like to thank is our audience. Without you, we would have been talking to ourselves for 3 years without anyone listening. It's because of you that we grew so fast, sharing our episodes on social media websites, talking to your friends about us, and even blogging about us. Knowing that so many people around the world were tuning in each week live and on iTunes to hear our shows was the greatest feeling one could ever have.

But I've let you all down.

3 months without any official word as to what's going on with the shows is completely unacceptable. At first I was trying to get things back up and running, but soon after I realized that it wouldn't be so easy. Months went by and I felt like we had been off the air for so long that I had lost all the momentum that we had gained. I've also lost everyone's trust, both from our hosts and from our audience.

So what went wrong?

The only person at fault here is me. Over the past 6 months my life went in to over-drive. First by moving out of the GTA to the Niagara region, then the loss of my job, and finally being let down by one of our sponsors. Normally I wouldn't point fingers, however Hover.com (tucows) had agreed to pay Perpetual Radio Networks approximately $250 for sponsorship in November of 2011, which would have covered at least 3 months of hosting for our network. However they felt they did not need to pay us and stopped communicating with me on the matter. At the end of the day though, the burden of guilt falls on me.

So what happens next?

Trust me, I don't want this to be the end of PRN. Not a day goes by that I don't think about the network, and not a day goes by that I don't feel awful about it. The problem is I don't know what the next step is. The philosophy behind PRN was that content should be free, and I want it to stay that way. Unfortunately my budget is still tight, being a home-owner, unemployed and bills to pay, things are not easy, however I am doing everything I can to keep our website and show hosting online so shows like Babies in Handcuffs can stay alive.

I'm open to suggestions. I'd love to hear back from you, either leave a comment below or send me an email tonile@perpetualradio.com

As I sign off this letter, I would like to once again apologize to everyone for the way we've handled the network over the past few months. You deserve more than this.

Thank you for your time,

Nile Livesey
President - Perpetual Radio Networks
